  19. At times, your graphical, MS-DOS - based application runs very slowly
  20. in full-screen mode. You may notice this behavior is triggered by
  21. switching the application between an icon and full screen state. Also,
  22. if you press a key, the application speeds up for a short time.
  23.  
  24. CAUSE
  25. =====
  26.  
  27. The Windows NT virtual MS-DOS machine (VDM) enabled idle time
  28. detection while the application was in full-screen mode. Because
  29. Windows NT does not trap video activity while an MS-DOS - based
  30. application is running in full-screen mode, it assumes the application
  31. is idle and reduces its execution priority. The reason the application
  32. speeds up when you press a key is that Windows NT detects keystrokes
  33. at all times; when the activity is noted, the status of the
  34. application is changed from idle to active.

  39. If you experience this behavior, use PIF Editor to create a program
  40. information file (PIF) for your application. In the Advanced Options
  41. dialog box, disable Detect Idle Time under Multitasking Options.
